I am finding it difficult to source a new one of this size (lots of smaller sizes available) so I am wondering can another different size coil be fitted in it's place as long as you can get the core to connect with

Ignition Coil Failure... My Lawnmower Forum

31/07/2018  Discussion Starter #1 Jul 24, 2018. Only show this user. I recently installed a new ignition coil on my Craftsman riding mower (17.5 HP Tecumseh engine). The coil failed after only 25-30 hours of operation. The 30 day warranty on the new coil has expired so I just have to swallow the cost. It was supposedly a genuine 'Tecumseh' part too.

07/05/2011  Electronic ignition modules designed to replace contact points in magneto systems essentially use a transistor as a solid state switch to interrupt the coil's primary circuit winding when the primary voltage reaches its positive peak, thereby doing what the points used to do but in a far more reliable and maintenance-free way.

What does the ignition coil do on a lawn mower?

30/01/2020  Keeping this in consideration, how does an ignition coil work on a lawn mower? When you start your lawn mower or small engine, you turn the flywheel and its magnets pass the coil (or armature). This creates a spark. Once the engine is running, the flywheel keeps rotating, the magnets keep passing the coil and the spark plug keep firing based on a specific timing.
